A sign of late summer...

Lots of tomatoes!

What is that?

Some major zoom had to be brought out to detect the origin of some movement in the soy field next door..

Bad Chochi!

Automeris Naranja

It's caterpillar time...

This one is most interesting...

It is an Automeris Naranja.
I think it should be called an "Automeris Rosada"...because clearly it is more rosada then naranja. This fellow was hanging out on the willow tree that is currently being trimmed (goat food) for eventual removal altogether.

If you happen to brush against this caterpillar with your bare skin, you'll feel it rather instantaneously. Venom is injected through the green hair and it feels like you've been bitten by red ants. Obviously that's not MY paw hanging out millimeters from this killer beast.

Happy Birthday!

It's Male Handler's birthday today...

You could tell he was beating to a different drum even early on... Actually all three beat to a different drum, but he in particular see things that others do not.

We're awfully happy to be on this adventure with him! Happy Birthday!

Bath Massage Thing

It was shopping day today for the Handlers. They do that on occasion after they have avoided it for about 3-5 weeks...

This caught their eyes:

I mean...who couldn't resist buying this "thing"?

In spite of the happy lady using her "thing", the Handlers selected not to buy.

Obviously they will not be stepping into a new century.

Inquisitive Dan leads the group underground

A couple of weeks ago the Handlers had friends in for the weekend. On their last day, the Handlers took them into Colonia for a quick tour. One of the places that they went to was the Centro Cultural Bastion del Carmen. This is the main cultural center for Colonia and a place that the Handlers used to frequent for exhibits and shows when they lived in town. The building itself, built in 1880, was used in different capacities over the years: a factory for making soap, gelatin, lampblack, wood glue; a receiving place for washing sheepskin; and various hardware stores. It sits right on the water overlooking the bay with good views of the beaches along the Rambla.

Just to the left of the main building, there are some stairs that go underground. Dan was the most inquisitive because he was actually looking for a bathroom... When he failed to reappear, the rest of the group went down. This is what they saw.

Apparently the water enters from the left during storms filling the reflecting pool. It cools the theater above in the summer, and improves the acoustics of any performance.

Not sure that the sight of water was helpful for Dan, but the detour was greatly enjoyed by others.
